The Micro-Map Project team has established a consortium with different European partners in order to apply for funding in the next FET-OPEN call. The consortium includes institutions from Sweden (U. West), Germany (BAM), Austria (FH OOE and LKR) and Spain (UCM and CENIM-CSIC). It is intended to use the microscopic stress description being developed in the Micro-Map Project to develop a comprehensive description of the residual stress field (including microscopic) and applied stresses. Through this description and the use of grain boundary engineering, a substantial improvement in the design of metallic components with improved integrity is expected to be achieved. Applications can be numerous in the energy, transportation, civil and nuclear engineering sectors.
